Design Against The Grain
Sandblasted Stairs
These are steps in the same home as the pyramid ceiling.
I went with a face grain fir for the steps and risers. Each grain pattern tells its own story. The sand blasting does two things-- it gives the dramatic grain a very deep texture
and puts a pitting on the surface. I wanted to create the effect of ocean waves when it's raining at sunset. The amber glow of the house lighting & fir creates this effect well.
The family living here have four kids and each child has a favorite step (the second youngest likes the first one best—that's my favorite, too).
